Is your enterprise prepared for iOS 11?
There have been many updates to iOS applications on the official Apple AppStore in the past two weeks to ensure compatibility, however inhouse app stores are still likely to be filled with company internal applications which might have issues with iOS 11. This is due to many developers still waiting for an official GM release candidate before actually putting efforts in iOS 11 compatibility, as the first beta builds often are incomplete or unreliable in terms of OS functions. Apple now released the official GM candidate, however there will still be some time needed for most inhouse app developers to ensure iOS 11 compatibility – and there is only some days left until the public release on September 19th.
I guess many IT departments sent out upgrade warnings like this one during the past days, to save their back from hundreds of service desk calls. Still, most EMM solutions do not provide you with a “postpone iOS upgrade” feature – probably Apple won’t ever include this in their MDM framework, since they are proud that their devices are not affected by OS version fragmentation like e.g. on Android.
What is your approach for iOS updates? Do you distinguish between minor and major OS versions? Do you care at all? Please let me know in the comments.
